Infrastructure in Hounslow
Hounslow is one of London’s best-connected boroughs, a gateway between the capital, Heathrow, the Thames Valley and global markets. With the A4/M4 corridor, Heathrow Airport, the Elizabeth line nearby, Piccadilly line connections, National Rail services and major regeneration plans across the Golden Mile, Hounslow is already a place where people, businesses and investment move easily. The next generation of infrastructure will build on that strength, supporting cleaner growth, better journeys, greener neighbourhoods and new opportunities for residents and businesses.
West London Orbital
The proposed West London Orbital would create a new passenger rail link through west and north-west London, connecting Hounslow with places such as Brentford, Acton, Old Oak Common, Neasden, Brent Cross and Hendon. By making better use of existing rail corridors, the scheme has the potential to improve orbital journeys, reduce reliance on routes through central London and strengthen access to jobs, homes, education and culture across the sub-region. For Hounslow, it would support regeneration along the Great West Corridor and improve connectivity between town centres, employment areas and major transport interchanges.
West London Regional Park
The emerging West London Regional Park is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to connect green spaces, waterways and communities across Hounslow and Ealing. Covering more than 500 hectares, the project aims to restore habitats, improve access to high-quality green space, support wildlife and create new opportunities for sport, play, culture, heritage, health and wellbeing. It shows how infrastructure in Hounslow is not only about transport and utilities, but also about quality of life, climate resilience and healthier places.
District Heat Network
Hounslow’s District Heat Network is a major step towards a cleaner, more resilient local energy system. The borough has secured £10.55 million to support a sustainable heat network that will recover heat from Thames Water’s Mogden sewage treatment works and use it to provide lower-carbon heating for local buildings. This kind of infrastructure can help reduce dependence on gas, improve energy resilience and support the borough’s wider climate goals.
Heathrow Expansion
Heathrow is one of Hounslow’s defining economic assets, connecting the borough to international trade, tourism and investment. Expansion proposals, including a potential third runway, continue to be developed and scrutinised, with Heathrow confirming investment in work towards a planning application and regulators considering models for delivery. For Hounslow, the opportunity is significant: jobs, supply-chain growth, skills pathways and business investment. It must also be balanced with the needs of local communities, including noise, air quality, transport, housing and environmental impacts.
